"Taxi!" San Francisco, 2012

This was like a scene out of the 1940's and reminded me of the silent film by Dziga Vertov "Man with a Movie Camera".  In that film you see all the street cars in old Russia and realize how much we all have in common.  When I look at this image I can here the concierge's whistle blowing and the sound of street cars rumbling over the tracks and the diesel engines of the bus.  It is a busy moment of traffic and yet there was this lone figure who stood out.  I love these kinds of moments and I am always looking to try to understand the underpinnings of a place and how it works.  I want to create a portfolio of images about the workers who make a city function.
