Photography by Ira Gardner | Honeymoon Lake

Returning to the Water, Honeymoon Lake near Jasper Canada, 2008

This image made me think of rebirth.  Returning to the amniotic source of our existence.

I had awakened early while on a camping trip in the Canadian Rockies.  About 6:30 in the morning these boys who were speaking German came to the lake with their bath towels and soap.  The water had to be freezing cold and yet this young man was fearlessly entering the water.

After making the photograph I returned to camp and went back to sleep.
