My Office Window

I think I learned to appreciate the way light varies from viewing the work of Richard Misrach and Joel Meyerowitz.  Misrach photographed the Golden Gate Bridge from his studio window over and over and each image is different and beautiful.

Meyerowitz photographed a porch on Cape Cod in different light too.  As I make these images I am reminded of how subject, composition, and LIGHT are what make an image or break it.  I am trying to learn to see the light every day and to be grateful for it.

I have a small office above the Spokane river where I teach.  This winter I've found myself taking a cell phone photo of the different light that changes the view on a daily basis.  It takes me only a moment to snap the photo but the gratitude I feel last all day.
