I met Jacob Johns yesterday while making a tintype portrait of a friend of mine. While we were talking I noticed that he had a pouch hanging from a necklace and I asked him about it. He emptied the contents of the pouch into the palm of his hand and explained how these stones were healing stones with each one having a specific purpose. One was there to absorb bad thoughts and the other was to help manifest the good thoughts and another was a crystal for healing. The weight of the pouch reminded him to be mindful. I cannot remember all of the details but I understood the spirit of what he was saying and I share in that belief that says we speak our reality into existence. I think it is so important to be mindful of our thoughts. There is the belief in a universal law of attraction and I have experienced it first hand.
Jacob Johns is a Hopi man who seems to be on a great journey. I felt a kindred spirit with him as I think we are all on a great journey. To meet at this intersection of space and time was a blessing.
As I thought about this I found myself looking for music to put with these images and much to my surprise I ran across a 1997 recording of a Rainbow Family gathering. This song seems to represent the kind of spirit I saw in Jacob's eye and also reflects how I see the world through the lens of my camera.
